Art Waits For The Artist

Decided on some pattern play with the cityscape from yesterdays post. I love the layering of the buildings.
My city scape waits to be painted. I do like the strength of the line work.
Let's see how many variations I end up with.

Thank you for stopping by.

Stuck on a Sketch

I have been playing with my lined city scape sketches today. I had drawn them  a while back as warm sketches.
I have visited it may times trying to figure out how to bring it to the next level.
I thought about painting it, repeating as a pattern or adding other motifs to it.

When I am stuck on sketch I pull out my mini boxes which contain various shapes, motifs I have drawn, and color chips I collect. I also have an audience with my sketch books and pull from there as well. This is the exercise I do when in a creative funk. We all have our own style when we approach a creative hiccup. What's yours?
Some of what I have collected in one of my mini boxes.

Playing with color ideas for painting the cityscape.

Thank you for stopping by.

From a Poetic Word Path to the HomeGoods Store

I was side tracked by JOY this week!

Perfect for Today's Word Path. Here is my first post of this week as I was celebrating finding out that my work could be found in Marshalls/HomeGoods stores. My sister had been out shopping and she called to tell me the news. It went kinda like this......."you need to pull over and check my text"!
I did pull over and my kids and I filled the car with laughter, giggles and OMGs and lots of joy. How fun to have that moment. We couldn't wait to get  home to share with my husband.

The words found in the work were so appropriate too!
Here is my original piece. I took pieces of my poem to produce the Happiest Collection.

I added The "All My Yesterdays Gave Me" today from a piece I made for my original blog post here back in 2011 and this wire rendering of the words as well.

I truly believe that we pull from our our foundation, our history to make the "who" we  become each day.

Word Path • Take the Dare

Inspiration in Disguise                                                 by Velásquez©2013

I have two Word Paths about rejection today because one thought led to another after much conversation with my artist friends recently. You know that world of creative competitions, juried shows and submissions to companies, agencies and magazines.

If you know me you already know I am an optimist and look at the positive side of most everything. Why not?
I believe in messages and signs leading you in the direction you should be going.
When it happens yes rejection hurts, sears, cuts, and bites but it is always temporary, as tomorrow is another day with all the newness it brings. Opportunity.

Word Paths, a Friday feature showcasing possibilities in written words, creative process and artistic pieces.
My goal is to present three to five words or three to five lines.
I may go to seven words or seven lines but probably not often, only if needed.
I plan to work the Word Paths out artistically and process them to share with you here.
You can go here, to my first post on this project and see how it all started.

It all started with this thought. I do believe rejection empowers you to be successful and it makes you strong.
Rejection is the gift you cannot see or understand the moment it happens. It only happens later upon reflection.
