May Flower Challenge • Plants

Flowers and Patterns for May Flower Challenge • Day Twelve

Sharing a favorite book that combines my two favorite things, flowers and surface pattern design. Plants and Their Application to Ornament by Eugéne Grasset was first published in 1897. Grasset was a graphic designer and teacher. I love the presentation of flowers in the first spread, then their application in few decorative pattern designs in the next spread. The book offers large illustrations for inspiration. The soft coffee cream background for all the artwork gives the book an old aged look. The plates are in Arts and Crafts style with the flowers represented in realistic botanical illustrations.
