Word Paths • Share Your Light

Everyone has a word path. One word leads to another.

Word Paths have been a Friday feature showcasing possibilities in written words, creative process and artistic pieces from the beginning of my blog You can go here, to my first post on this project and see how it all started

I was playing around with the idea that I would create an alphabet out of cut letters just for fun.

I decided to create today's Word Path out of cut letters. Love the imperfect shapes.

Here is My Word Path for Today

I want my kids to know that I want them to never live in my shadow but live in my light. Shadows can be anything from our fears, our history of mistakes, even our insecurities. We can pass this onto them without even knowing. They should learn from all of that "stuff" and make their own way and live in the lighted path. The lighted paths are our gifts of courage, love, joy, confidence, kindness and a lot of laughter.

Silkscreening Finally!

I finally achieved a goal that has been on my list for a long time. I am learning how to silkscreen. I have one more class to go.

I just let it become this "thing", this mystery for the longest time. Funny how we let things like that become the big scary monster!! So now I have tried and worked in all types of printmaking with this being my last to embrace. Why did I wait so long?

I just loved it!!! Here are some photos to share from my fun experience.

Exciting to see my tree motif printed. I printed the design on paper only in this round looking forward putting ink on fabric.

I love this printmaking process. No longer a mystery.

Burning images to the screen. Trying a few images all at the same time as test.

Washing the screen.

Putting a ribbon of paint on to the screen. Decided to try the tree motif first.

Flooding the screen.

Here are the printed tree motifs, I love the strength of silhouette.
As much as I enjoy design, surface pattern design to be exact, there is nothing like the "magic' of creating art with your hands.
In surface pattern design I have realized that it is possible to find balance between computer work and working with your hands.
I had a fabric design teacher, who eventually became my friend who always said "keep your "hand" in your work, don't lose that.
With that said make the computer your other "favorite brush" use it as an art supply or tool.

Word Paths • Friendship

Everyone has a word path. One word leads to another.

One inspiration led to another....I was invited for a coffee last week after dropping off the kids at school. You know me not one to deny myself that cup of joe. While doing the latte thing and enjoying some conversation we came to the topic of friendship. My friend said friendship "should be effortless" and I have always thought the same. We hadn't seen each other in a while except for the occasional window wave when picking up the kids. What was nice was that and we both felt it was so easy pick up where we left off. Along the same lines as "effortless" I said that I liken my best friendships to the same relationship one has with cousins. Time passes and you just pick up where you left off. That is a comfortable place to be in a friendship.

So after coffee I went back to the studio and while organizing I found this great small book full of quotes on friendship. It is so funny how things just present themselves in your life like that. This tiny treasure is from Orange Art Miniatures, The lively little letterpress library. They have tiny books on Gardens and Gardening, Cooks on Cooking, Blooming Herbs, Children, Words About Love and on. They make sweet gifts to share.
