Art Every Day Month • Day One

I am participating in Art Everyday Month
I have joined a group of creative people committing themselves to
more creativity for the month of November.
This afternoon I started out with some printmaking for Day One using a carved block.
I drew my design directly on to the rubber carving block and started to cut.

I did change my design a bit as I went along. I used my craft paper to test the block print design.

Stop by Leah's websiteCreative Every Day and check out fellow artist and their creations for Art Every Day Month.

Thank you for stopping by.

May Flower Challenge • Carved Flower

Carved Flower Part One • May Flower Challenge • Day Nine
The beginning of a carved block.

Here is the start of my carving process. I rubbed graphite on the back of tracing paper so I could trace my designs onto the carving block easily. Some transfers appear in pencil and some I did in black marker.

Turned paper over  to see flower drawing in order to trace.

Her are all my flower motif transfers. It was hard to choose which one to start with. I decided to start with the bottom right dancing flower.
The carving begins.

As you can see below it turned out to be a nice graphic, strong and bold. I love the look, a lovely surprise.

I have inked up the block to see what more is needed to be cut away from the block.
I will run some test prints to help find uneven spots.
The carved block looks great in its raw form, there is a primitive feel to the carving.
I will start printing tomorrow.

Well there you have it!  A Flower carving for day nine of The May Flower Challenge . Each day you can post your flower creation, whether it is a doodle, drawing, photograph, collage or painting. This challenge has been started by  Lori Moon, fellow blogger, talented photographer and jewelry artisan. Play along on a specific day each week or only once - whatever inspires you.
Join the challenge, here, it is going to be fun.
