Modern ampersands from the Coming Together Charity Project

Type is fascinating and inspiring. The energy and beauty of the ampersand can be felt and seen when combined with letters, added to copy or married to words. The ampersand is considered a glyph or single character. The ampersand is two letters combined, the "e" and the "t" of the latin "et", and can be traced back to the 1st century A.D. and the Old Roman cursive. The word ampersand is said to be a conflation of the phrase "and per se and", meaning "and.
On my coffee table at the moment is the book, Just My Type by Simon Garfield, it is funny, clever and you will never look at the written word the same again.
