Art Everyday Day Eight • Paris on My Mind

I just received a book called Paris Made by Hand by Australian stylist and photographer Pia Jane Bijkerk. This lovely gift was given to me this past Saturday, by one of my closest friends. Whenever we visit she always has a bag or box of "Deb" things.
I love her found elements of inspiration, it is always Christmas!

I started to look through the book today for inspiration and found over fifty Parisian shops celebrating the spirit of handmade traditions. Turn the pages you and walk through the shops of milliners, shoemakers, dressmakers and more. With each shop that is highlighted you will find their address, phone number, hours, Metro station and website if the shop has one.

Pia gives you a brief glossary of terms en français that I would like to share with you here:

Atelier: studio/workshop

Bricoler: to make/do/adjust/repair things with your hands(DIY)

Bricoleur: the person who enjoys bricoler

Brocantes: flea markets

Chineur: someone who finds antiques and old things

Créateur: designer

Fait main: made by hand

Mercerie: boutique selling sewing and craft supplies

I love the city of Paris and I love to make and create things by hand, this combination truly lights me up.
These Paris boards were inspired by the book.

Word Paths • Life and Art Every Day Four

Everyone has a word path. One word leads to another.

Word Paths, a Friday feature showcasing possibilities in written words, creative process and artistic pieces.

My goal is to present three to five words or three to five lines.

I may go to seven words or seven lines but probably not often, only if needed.

Art Everyday Day Two • A Flower Begins

I started the day thinking about my Art Every Day project and thought I would make a raised a stamp. I used weather stripping foam on plexi. This is a great technique. You work opposite of the carved rubber block used for the owl prints.

Instead of cutting away on a block to create the design, here you build up the design on the block.

Flowers are a huge theme for me, I am very passionate about inspiration from the outdoors. Nature has the power to slow you down, shorten your steps, make you pause in its beauty as you rush by.

I find it to be the greatest gift to artist and non artist alike.

This is my base for my flower print. A simple and solid shape printed with black textile ink on butcher paper. I love to work on butcher paper, it is a good place to work out designs before making a final piece.

I use this paper for artwork with great results. I pretty much print and paint on anything! My favorite has be shingles from a renovation, shown here in a previous post, look behind the pillow.

Tomorrow I will bring the flower to phase two, a final transformation.

Fly

This piece is dedicated to the Fly Girls.
