Drawing with cutting tools for Line and Shape

I went ahead and started to carve the Echinacea sketches I made for last Thursday's post. You can see the post here.

I wanted to approach the each drawing differently in the print it would make. I wanted to show graphic shape in one and in the other I wanted just line as in the original sketch.

Each one shows its own strength in design. Love how they turned out.

Many test sheets for black ink on paper. I can see a few clean up spots but I do like the honesty of those imperfections from relief printing.

Tomorrow will bring some color play experimentation.

Word Paths • Art Every Day Two

I am participating in Art Everyday Month.

I have joined a group of creative people committing themselves to

more creativity for the month of November.

As we all get ready to vote next Tuesday I was inspired to create another stamped project but with letters this time and the all important word VOTE. I used a flower stamp that I made a while back, it is a favorite and you can see that post here.

Here are what I call my test scraps. So pleased with my final artwork, I made it today's Word Path.

Talking in Paint

My watercolors to me, are like an artistic conversation on a page.
I follow the brush, it takes the lead to make marks and sketches in a rhythm probably found in my hand memory.
Your hand is where I have come to believe an artist's style lies.

The washes are nature inspired.
