May Flower Challenge Day Twenty • The Wild side of the Garden

Walked though the garden this afternoon to see what may be coming into bloom.

On that walk I found some wild flowers for day twenty of the May Flower Challenge.

I found some columbine and common blue violets.

Watercolor...Where Red Orange Pink and Yellow meet.

I was inspired by a rich and warm color palette found in a scarf, pantone chips and my youngest sons memory game cards. I made a sketch of a thistle like flower during a morning drawing exercise yesterday. I brought them both together to make a lovely print.

Test prints of flower layered on watercolor background. They sit beautifully together.

Pencil, ink and watercolors proved to be great combinations.

Pencil and ink for the thistle like flowers to keep that hand drawn sketch and loose feel.

Art every Day Twenty-Eight • Red....We meet Again

Day Twenty-Eight of Making Art Every Day

Here I am back to red. Trying to think outside the box again in regards to using more of it.

I just recently mentioned that red is not in my usual color palette. I am an orange loving person, it is my red, as you can read here and here.

So today I went around the house looking for red things to photograph and inspire me. I found a few things to share and I put together a mini mood board for you. Have you tried a new color you hardly ever incorporate into your work? Just curious.

Red is the color of

confidence

courage

action

energy

and

passion
It is the highest arc of the rainbow

At twilight it is the first color you lose sight of

Red demands attention and represents beauty in many languages and cultures.

It shows determination to go after dreams.

It is also an emotionally intense color often associated with love.
In China it is associated with good luck and fortune.
In many cultures red amulets were worn to prolong life.

Simply Red

Still inspired by Sweet Red, a flower I painted in a previous post called Playing with Scissors I created Simply Red. It was created with tear drop off cuts from a carving block I just recently worked on. The petals are modulated because of the water color paper I stamped on.

Tear drop off cuts have an abstract beauty on their own.
