Sweet Red by Velásquez©2012 |
Sweet Red. This flower was inspired by an old sketch I had done a while ago, when I had reams of butcher paper across a wall so I could make marks at the ready when I walked by. I loved this spontaneous sketching because not all days are days of making art.
So today, when ready to paint I used a Pelikan Watercolor Opaque Set, not my usual gouache from a tube of Designers Gouache. I found that it didn't lay as flat and matte as the Designer's Gouache. The matte finish makes it my favorite to work with. May need to work with this set to get use to the feel of this paint. I plan on using it as part of my travel art supply kit. May paint this one again in gouache.
Wanted to play a bit with this lovely flower so I made some copies and took the scissors out.
I played around in laying out a pattern design. Could have done some design work on the computer but sometimes tactile is more fun. Most of the time this is how I work and process my ideas. How about you?
