Word Path •Sending Congratulations and Highlighting my Sister's Favorite for May Flower Challenge Day Ten

My Sister's Daisy                           by Velásquez©2013

My sister's favorite flower for day ten of the May Flower Challenge , which I am combining with my Word Path Series today. I am dedicating today's post to my sister who graduates tomorrow with a Master's degree. See my Word Path below.

For the May Flower Challenge , each day you can post your flower creation, whether it is a doodle, drawing, photograph, collage or painting. This challenge has been started by Lori Moon, fellow blogger, talented photographer and jewelry artisan. Sign up and join in on the flower fun. Can't wait to see what you create as well! Please note: You do NOT have to participate every day. Play along on a specific day each week or only once - whatever inspires you. Join the challenge, here, it is going to be fun.

I love this challenge not because I have a love for drawing, painting and printing flowers but it is an excellent way to build up your motif library. It also keeps your drawing hand in motion and the creative flow becomes a part of your being.

Its Show Time....Bringing Out the Big Brushes and the Big Flowers

Echinacea in Black Ink                                                                            by Velásquez©2013

The start of my Large Flower project for my late spring and early summer shows. Working with acrylic ink, movement and large strokes. Going for twelve of these.
My approach is just like drawing at a figure drawing class!

Starting to add color. Going with the usual orange, my favorite color and going expand the palette by playing with a pink color.

Watercolor...Where Red Orange Pink and Yellow meet.

I was inspired by a rich and warm color palette found in a scarf, pantone chips and my youngest sons memory game cards. I made a sketch of a thistle like flower during a  morning drawing exercise yesterday. I brought them both together to make a lovely print.

Test prints of flower layered on watercolor background. They sit beautifully together.
Pencil, ink and watercolors proved to be great combinations.
Pencil and ink for the thistle like flowers to keep that hand drawn sketch and loose feel.
